Ministers

I saw a future then I didn’t quite believe

A plotting particle trying to pass through the sieve

I loved the energy in your glassy eyes

So much that I’ll reprise every word I tried to hide

‘Cause  I was someone else

When we were ministers

You showed yourself to me when leading those retreats

Poised and purposeful, Pieta pulled us to our knees

I saw my speeding clock, ran from Antioch

Left behind what could have been a friendship like an evergreen

But I was blind and dumb

When we were ministers

I was someone else

Shut off the lights and kept mine for myself

I was someone else

When we were ministers
